Late one night in Memphis, we were drinking the wishing well,
When across the street came a funky beat, clear as a bell.
A bottle rocket combo, were making you move your feet,
Like a cool fillet gumbo,
Too hot to eat.

You can keep your Alma Mater,
Forget your jelly roll,
Long’ as me and the boys can make some noise,
At the Ace in the Hole.

So we joined the queue for a better view of the band at the bar,
And stood beside the mesmerised, from near and afar.
They were slippin’ and a slidin’, to such a sweet refrain,
From a silent conversation to a dog on a chain.

At the Ace in the Hole.

Listening to the melody, kept changing the groove,
It made it feel so wild and free, defied you to move.
It took you to a better place, broke free of the chains,
